Hello, Sarah? Get me Barney.

Notes from Nan: Commercial
BY HF Contributing Writer, Nan Parati

Ring . . . . . Ring . . . . Ring . . . . Ring . . . . Ring . . . . Ring . . . . . Ring . . . . Ring . . . .

(Voiceover) It’s 3:00 am. Your kids are sound asleep. That damn red phone won’t stop ringing.
The question is: Who has enough experience to answer that damn phone?

(Cut to photo of Nan) I do! I do! I have lots of experience with phones! I have two at my house right now that work and, one of the old-fashioned ringing phones (so I know what they sound like) that you can use when the power goes out. I have a cell phone, even though it doesn’t work in Ashfield, and I’m old enough that we always used dial phones as I was growing up. My grandmother had a 45 pound black iron desk phone, and I understand that both of my parents used, at some time in their early lives, the kind of phones they have on Andy Griffith where he picks up the receiver and says, “Hello, Sarah? Get me Barney.” So I know all about phones and how to answer them!

So vote for me! I’m usually awake about 3:00 every morning anyway, figuring stuff out, so I’ll be awake when the phone rings, anyway! I won’t even have to clear my voice to get the sleep out because I’m always awake!

Friday Night Dinner (03/14/08):

Dinner has, by the way, become even more fun with the on-going happy decorations in the store. Elmer’s Store: A vacation away from snow-infested New England.

Here’s our dinner menu this week:

  • Lobster Ravioli with crab in a sherry cream sauce
  • With mushroom and sautéed spinach
  • With a salad of fieldgreens.

And for vegetarians:

  • Vegetable Ravioli in a sherry cream sauce
  • With mushroom and sautéed spinach
  • With a salad of fieldgreens.

I haven’t heard yet what Susanne is making for dessert, but, whatever it is, I’ll bet it’s good!

Rob’s Grocery Talk with Rob

Spread the word around: Guess who’s back in town?

The goats are back in town!

The goats are back in town!

That’s right. You heard the Harleys. A whole fresh new shipment of Goat Rising Cheese has arrived on our doorstep! Many varieties to choose from! Cow cheese too! I wish I could go into detail about all these cheeses but that song is just kickin’ and I got to get back to it.

Friday night they’ll be dressed to kill

Down at Lakehouse Bar and Grill

The milk will flow and cud will spill

And if the goats wanna fight you better let ‘em!

Do you know where your banana came from?

Last week I ran an ad for Dole® Organic bananas and guess what? You can use the magic of the “inter-cyberweb” to actually see the farm that grew the bananas we sell at Elmer’s Store! Just click here for a visit.

I was talking to Maribeth about this and lamenting the demise of the old fashioned DDT laced, over-tilled, unsustainable, forced child labor farms I remember as a child. She assured me there was still plenty of forced child labor taking place right here on her farm!

I have tasted them and they are good.

The Divina® stuffed olives I mentioned last week are proving to be a big hit! Okay, we sold one jar so far, but I tasted one of the blue cheese olives and yum. Better than the ones you get from the olive bar at the supermarket. You will love these so much you’ll keep them in the cupholder of your car. I will be disappointed in you all if these don’t sell (we’ll still be friends, though).

Be well,

Rob
