SOCCER MOM

(c) Hilltown FamiliesMy daughter started soccer this week. I guess that officially makes me a Soccer Mom, even though I don’t drive an SUV or carry a cell phone. Other than being invested in my child’s upbringing, the only thing that really makes me a “soccer mom” is the fact that my daughter started playing soccer this week. But that’s even a stretch. While she did kick the ball around a few times, she spent most of her time rolling around with a soccer ball on her tummy in the grass, reminiscent of a Weeble Wobble. Or she was crawling around on all fours pretending she was some sort of wild cat swatting at kids calves as they ran by.

(c) Hilltown FamiliesShe’s not that keen on organized sports. Never has been. Unless you have the patience of a saint you can forget trying to play Go-Fish or teaching her how to play checkers. I’ve seen attempts at many a board game go sour. The girl has a mind of her own, with her own set of rules. (You go girl!)

Recently at my friends house our kids were trying to set up rules for a jumping game on their trampoline. We overheard my daughter complain, “Why can’t we just do whatever we want to do?” My friend responded, “Because anarchy can not reign on a trampoline!” But can it reign on the soccer field?

Speaking of sports, the 28th Annual Hilltown Junior Olympics will be held in Worthington, MA on Saturday, September 29th. Check with your local town to participate. Deadline for signing up is up on us.

Valley students at Bridge Street, Jackson Street and R.K. Finn Ray Road Schools have access to the Northampton Public Schools after school enrichment program, offered Mon-Thurs from 3:00pm – 4:15pm. Click here for more details.
