There are a couple of things happening this weekend that we’re pretty excited about. The first is the Cummington Fair, which I mentioned in a previous post. Thursday night was the “Night For Trucks.” We always skip Thursday night. Too loud and too much exhaust! But Friday night is kids night when they sell tickets half price and you can use these tickets all weekend. So Friday we get our tickets, and then Saturday and Sunday we become fair-goers. CONSTANT WONDER
The other event we’re pretty excited about is a performance by the award-winning singer/ songwriting duo, Constant Wonder at the Eric Carle Museum on Saturday at 1pm. Constant Wonder performances are both educational and environmental and have been promoting respect for all creatures with their GREEN message for 5 years. Audience members will enjoy an interactive performance, which makes learning more memorable for all participants. Below is a video from a live performance at the Long Island Children’s Museum in NY:
Before their performance I will be interviewing them for Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child. I’ll be sure to post the interview in days to come.

Homeland(s): India and the Pioneer Valley
Free dance performance
“Homeland(s): India and the Pioneer Valley” is an hour-long show especially created for this year’s On the Same Page event. Weaving sound, images and live contemporary Indian dance, “Homeland(s)” shares the stories of six vastly different Pioneer Valley individuals, all of whom have a strong connection to India. Through narratives and dance, “Homeland(s)” is an intimate exploration of life journeys and the memories, images and impressions that influence our conceptions of “home.”
Dahlia Nayar is a dancer/choreographer based in Northampton. She is a first generation American, born to immigrant parents from India and the Philippines. She creates meditative pieces that explore connections between her heritages and her present context.
Northampton’s On the Same Page book of 2007 is Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel, “The Namesake.”
Copies of the book are available at Forbes and Lilly Libraries, and local bookstores.

2006 NATURE WORKSHOP SERIES WITH DAVE LOVEJOY SEPTEMBER 16TH
“The Oak Forest” Field guides to southern New England refer to the forest type common here as the oak forest or oak-hickory forest. On this walk, the typical species of this community, including trees, shrubs, and non-woody plants will be identified and described.
All walks and workshops will meet at the entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Sanctuary, are held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and will cancel if there is heavy rain. Bring along your field guides, binoculars and camera.
