2007 Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade in Chesterfield
with Quilts, Antique Cars & Horse Drawn Buggies
This year will mark the 60th annual 4th of July Parade in Chesterfield! To recognize this milestone, this year’s parade will reflect the theme of “An Old Fashioned 4th.”
HORSES
In addition to including antique cars as has often been done, the planning committee is asking area residents with horses and wagons (or buggies) to join the celebration of our nation’s history by participating in the parade. Questions can be directed to Carol Jolly at 413-296-4254.
QUILTS
The Parade Committee will be holding a quilt display at the Chesterfield Congregational Church during the Independence Day celebration. We are looking for quilts to exhibit and welcome both vintage and new quilts, whether made by the exhibitor or someone else. We will be awarding cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 to those chosen as “best in show” by attendees and Honorable Mention ribbons to those selected by town boards.
Quilts must be received by noon on June 30th to be included. For additional information or to receive an entry form, please contact Denise LeDuc at 413-296-4312 or .
Stay tuned for more old fashion updates …

Chesterfield 4th of July Celebration Promises Something for Everyone
Chesterfield’s 60th annual 4th of July celebration will be bigger and better than ever. With the theme of “An Old Fashioned 4th,” the parade will feature bands, floats, the clown Peppermint Patty, costumed children, antique cars, and horses and buggies. There will be plenty of food, with a Pancake Breakfast preceding the parade and a chicken barbecue right afterwards. A variety of snacks will also be available throughout the day. For kids (of all ages), in addition to the clown, there will be a magic show, petting zoo, climbing wall and “sticky wall.” After the parade, visitors will be entertained by the Heritage Pops Orchestra and will be able to watch the traditional Firemen’s Mini-Muster, an art show and a quilt display. Except for the food, everything is free of charge, and of course everyone is welcome.
The Parade can always use more participants. Bands, horses and buggies, antique cars, floats, and kids with costumes are welcome to be part of the festivities. If you’d like to join the parade, please contact Mary Ann Coleman at 413-296-4787.
I think that’s a GREAT idea Kara. I think if we put something together it would be a lovely (civic) opportunity for our kids to learn about & participate in a community tradition that’s been around for 60 years!
What do you guys think about getting together a good old fashioned bike/trike/wagon brigade from hilltown families? We could get together before the parade and decorate with streamers, balloons etc…I know P’s b-day is usually on the fourth, can we somehow incorporate the parade in town with her special day?
