Suggested Events 12/01/2006 – 12/08/2006

With the holiday season upon us, there are a lot of fun and educational weekend experiences just waiting for us to explore them in the Pioneer Valley and Hilltowns. Friday looks like a good day to head on over to Amherst for the afternoon and into the evening; Saturday has several events happening in Northampton/Florence area; and in Pittsfield on Sunday is a performance of the Little Mermaid. Friday 12/01 (62° F | 30° F – Rainy)

1pm – BEASTLY ABODES – At the Jones Library in Amherst from 1-3pm. Make a home for a backyard wildlife. [Ages 8 & up] ($)

3:30p – ANIMAL TALES – With the Dakin Animal Shelter at the Jones Library in Amherst. From 3:30-4:30pm children will learn about caring for pets and respecting all animals and wildlife as they spend time with friendly shelter animals. (Free)

4pm -MERRY MAPLE CELEBRATION! -In downtown Amherst. From 4-6pm the town will be filled with events & activities for the family. For an itinerary call 413-253-0700. (Free)

4pm – FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE CARLE – At the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst. From 4-7pm the Eric Carle Museum invites all visitors to head to the Museum after school/work, grab a quick and casual bite to eat (pizza!) in the Museum’s Cafe, enjoy a storytime in the Reading Library, drop by the Galleries, take in a short film in the Auditorium, and create a masterpiece in the Art Studio… all before bedtime! First Friday of each month. ($)

Saturday 12/02 (46° F | 22° F– cloudy)

10am – FAMILY DANCE – NEA Family Dance Party in Northampton from 10:00- 11:30am. Everybody welcome! Structured activities & unstructured free dancing. Great for kids 3-8 years old, their families and friends. Lots of fun! ($)

10am – WINTER FAIR – The Hilltown Charter School of Florence, MA, will be having their Winter Fair from 10am-4pm. ($)

1pm – FAMILY DAY AT THE CLARK – From 1pm-4pm at the Clark Museum in Williamstown, MA. Embrace the French tradition of joie de vivre as the Clark hosts a family-friendly celebration of Franco- American friendships with art, food, music, mime, and film. From the creation of art to kid-friendly gallery talks to the building of your own mini-museum, the Clark will offer a variety of French-inspired activities for kids, teens, and adults. (Free)

5:30pm – HAYRIDES THROUGH WINTER WONDERLAND – At Look Park in Florence, MA. These rides start at the Visitor Center and continue through the park allowing riders to see the Park beautifully adorned with the Holiday Lights. ($)

SUNDAY 12/03 (36° F | 19° F– cloudy)

2pm – THE LITTLE MERMAID [Theatre] – A theater production performed by the Berkshire Children’s Theater at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA. A talented ensemble of performers ranging from ages 5 to 19 brings to life characters from Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid. Join the Little Mermaid as she leaves her life as a beloved princess under the sea to discover her destiny, and her prince, on the land above.($)

4pm – CHRISTMAS CONCERT – The Hilltown Choral Society will be holding a Christmas concert at the First Congregational Church of Worthington. For information call 413-442-7237 or 413-238-7760. ($)

Thursday 12/07

9am – PARENT’S BREAKFAST AT ELMER’S -After dropping your children off at school, head on over to Elmer’s in Ashfield, MA, for coffee, tea and crumpets.

1:30pm – HOME SCHOOL THURSDAYS – Meet at the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, MA, to explore the museum while connecting with other home school families; visit the galleries, explore art making in the Studio, books in the Reading library, and view a short film at 2:30pm. ($)

4p – YOUNG FARMERS – Young Farmers at Red Gate are invited to help farmer feed animals, check for eggs and take care of other chores in Buckland, MA. Parents and younger siblings also welcome. [Ages 5 and older] (Free)

Friday 12/08

5pm – HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE – At the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA, enjoy free cider and seaworthy holiday crafts before Pittsfield’s tree lighting at 7 p.m. in Park Square. (Free)

    Not a holiday related event but interesting!!!

    A photographic exhibit by me, Cynthia Poirier at the Community House December 1-31. Portraits/landscapes and interviews with local farmers.

    Opening reception saturday December 2nd, 6-8pm
